Alexandra says to me – “Daddy, I saw an alligator on TV when it was really cold outside. It looks like it was dead; but it was alive. I heard that their heartbeats can slow down to survive.”
Yes, the heartbeats for alligators can slow down to less than 2 beats per minute (normal heartbeat rate is 20+ heartbeats per minute and sometimes over 60 heartbeats per minute when they are hunting).
From 60 heartbeats a minute to under 2 heartbeats a minute (Amazing!)
Quick side note: Hats off to the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station! Alexandra and I made a trip to this aquarium recently. Quite a memorable experience!
These folks are doing a fantastic job. Their employees were so helpful, positive and informative!
Great interactive experiences!!
Best interactive aquarium we have ever been too!
